our wedding

our wedding

high up on a hill
in the midst of a temple courtyard
under summer’s azure sky
you anointed me your own.

with vows of unending love echoing in us
we walked hand in hand
around the sacred fire,
while the chant of the sanskrit hymns
twirled in the morning wind,
and the whistling canopy of the peepal tree
became our rustic theme.

at the inception of our belonging
as we gazed into eachother
the sun and the world seemed to stand hushed
like divine invitees waiting to bless
our auspicious wedding, on this earth.

today, six years after,
the recital of this beautiful day
fondly whispers in my heart.

let my thoughts come to you
when I am gone
like the afterglow of sunset
at the margin of starry silence
